National Forum: Resisting Poverty & Exclusion

Here's a heads-up from the Canadian Research Institute for the Advancement of Women (CRIAW)
Women Resisting Poverty & Exclusion: Alternative Visions & Practices
A National Forum
May 4-6, Ottawa, Ontario

Around the world, local and global women’s organizations are resisting unsustainable economic
modes by generating innovative and alternative economic practices for their families and communities.
It is widely recognized that there are many causes to poverty and that its eradication requires more than
simple band-aid solutions.

The Canadian Research Institute for the Advancement of Women (CRIAW) is creating a space to collectively
explore, reflect, and mobilize around the issues resulting from women’s poverty and social exclusion,
particularly within the Canadian context. It seeks to bring together a wide range of people into
conversation with one another to explore alternative visions and practices.

Objectives of the National Forum:

	To review and discuss various forms of alternative approaches and models to address women’s
poverty and exclusion.
	To facilitate networking amongst Canadian and International groups and individuals working on
women’s poverty and exclusion.
	To facilitate discussion and strategizing among feminist organizations around the current social
and political climate in Canada and around the globe.

This forum will offer participants an opportunity to discuss active, creative, and critical ways that women
become actors in resisting poverty and social exclusion. We extend this invitation to feminists of
all ages;
  -non-governmental organizations
